Entrance requirements
• University Entrance Qualification “Abitur” equivalent
(Information on studying without a university entrance qualification can be found here)
• Artistic talent
• Sufficient knowledge of German ( At the time of application: proof of linguistic ability equivalent to level B1, and for matriculation: proof of linguistic ability equivalent to level C1)
Duration of studies and Degree
• Standard period of study: 8 semesters, 240 credit points
• Degree: Bachelor of Arts (BA)
Your application step by step
All steps mentioned in the following must be taken within the application deadline of the respective study program. It is recommended that you apply as early as possible within the application deadline so that you can clarify any questions that may arise with our StudyGuide in good time.
- Register and verify your identity (if you have not already done so in the past) in the Campusmanagement-Portal of the UdK Berlin: https://my.udk-berlin.de.
Log in to the Campus Management Portal (https://my.udk-berlin.de) and submit an application for admission to the desired degree program there within the application deadline and upload the following formal documents in a PDF file (max. 20 MB) to the application portal during the application process:
● Curriculum vitae in tabular form with detailed information about the previous course of study.
● uncertified photocopy of high school diploma ("Abitur"). If you are unable to provide a final certificate of your school education (e.g. high school diploma) at the time of application, please submit a copy of the last school report within the application deadlines. The high school diploma must be submitted at the latest for enrollment.
● Bank statement as proof of payment of the fee of € 30 for processing the application (in case of transfer from abroad proof of deposit) or sales view (in case of online banking). Other proofs/receipts (such as transfer orders) will not be accepted. (For more information, see 3.).
● International applicants must also provide proof of German language skills: for application, language certificate German B1 and for enrollment, language certificate German C1. More information can be found here.

Admission procedure
What happens after the application?
The admission procedure consists of a preselection and an entrance examination.
The preselection is based on a submitted artistic portfolio, for the selected applicants the entrance exam follows.
Approximately 4 weeks after the application deadline, you will be informed by e-mail about the dates for sending the portfolio.
The portfolio for this degree programme is sent in paper form by post to the UdK Berlin.

Entrance examination
The selected applicants will receive more detailed information on the entrance examination following the pre-selection in good time by e-mail. The entrance examination takes place on site.

Task for the application for the winter semester 2024/25
"Space"
The topic "Space" is to be dealt with using artistic visual means. Produce approximately 20 originals for your portfolio.
Your works should show your examination of the complexity and multi-layered nature of spaces. What do you find fascinating about spaces in terms of poetry, narration, atmosphere, light, dimension, construction and/or dramaturgy?
Use a variety of drawing techniques. It is also possible to work on the theme using photographic/performative/sculptural/space installation/film techniques. In this case, please include photographic documentation. (Please do not submit DVDs or links).
The potential of an independent visual language as well as the creation and grasp of artistic concepts should be evident from the form of presentation of the submitted works. An experimental variety of pictorial means is desired.
Applicants who are already studying architecture at another university should supplement the portfolio with up to 3 design projects from their previous studies.
• Maximum format DIN A 2, maximum weight 5 kg
• Not permitted are: Rolls (will be returned unopened), works in envelopes, three-dimensional objects in their original form.
• Please clearly label the outside of the portfolio with your name, sender's address and the name of your degree programme.
• Please stick the application number clearly on the folder.
