Entrance requirements

•  university degree in the Bachelor's degree program "Jazz (Vocal/Instrumental)" at the Jazz-Institut Berlin or in a comparable course of study of at least six semesters at another music university in Germany or abroad
• a special artistic talent for this course of study
• command of
   a. German language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or
   b. English language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

• Standard period of study: 4 semesters, 120 credits

• Degree: Master of Music (M Mus)

All steps mentioned in the following must be taken within the application deadline of the respective study program. It is recommended that you apply as early as possible within the application deadline so that you can clarify any questions that may arise with our StudyGuide in good time.

1. Register and verify yourself (if you have not already done so in the past) in the Campus Management Portal of the UdK Berlin: https://my.udk-berlin.de
    
2. Log in to the Campus Management Portal (https://my.udk-berlin.de) and submit an application for admission to the desired degree programme there by the application deadline.
   Attach the following documents to the application for admission:
   ● Detailed CV in tabular form (presentation of personal, artistic and professional career) including any certificates of relevant activities in the field of the degree programme
   ● Certificate of university graduation or - if this is not yet available - a certificate of completed and outstanding achievements (information for an application with a foreign university degree can be found below)
   ● Bank statement as proof of payment of the fee of € 30 for processing the application (in case of transfer from abroad proof of payment) or turnover view (in case of online banking). Other proofs/receipts (such as transfer orders) are not accepted.
   ● Transfer students from other univercities must enclose proof of previous study and examination achievements. You can find more information here.
   ● International applicants must also provide proof of their German or English language skills: language certificate German or English A2 for application and language certificate German or English B2 for enrolment.

4. Within the application deadline, upload a digital documentation of the artistic skills (work samples from the field of jazz) for which you are solely or mainly responsible to the upload platform bemus (duration 10-15 minutes in total), accompanying texts must be submitted in German or English.

   Possible file formats: pdf, mp3, mp4, mov
   Max. 2 GB per file, pdf max 500 MB
   no more than 8 GB in total, max. 10 files

   The  files must be named according to the following pattern:
   Surname_First_Name_Applicant_Number_Study_Content.

The admission procedure consists of the pre-selection and the entrance examination.

Those who have passed the pre-selection will be invited to the entrance examination, which is expected to take place on site at the JIB.  Admission to the course is decided on the basis of the entrance examination.
 As a rule, the entrance examination takes place in the winter semester for admission to the course in the following summer semester.
 The entrance examination consists of the following parts:

•     Evaluation of the submitted work samples
•     Audition (duration: approx. 20 minutes) of a self-chosen varied program with improvisational parts from the field of jazz - own compositions desired - with own ensemble or ensemble provided by the institute
•     Colloquium (duration: approx. ten minutes)

Applicants will receive a detailed information sheet on the entrance examination with their invitation.
