CampusCard
General Information
Status of information: 30 October 2023
The UdK Berlin has introduced a CampusCard with the re-registration for the summer semester 2022. The system has been introduced by 10 universities as joint project from early 2015 onwards. Additional information about the joint project can be found here.
After successful re-registration, you will need to update your CampusCard in one of the validators (wall-mounted device). You do not need a new QR code.
Mail delivery of Campus-Cards is not possible. All functions of the card are only valid in Berlin. If you require a proof of your student status, you can find a PDF in the Campusmanagementportal my.udk
Locations of the terminals
Franklinstraße 28/29, 10587 Berlin(Bus stop Marchbrücke (line 245)), staircase A, 6th floor near the StudyGuide (can only be used during StudyGuide opening hours)
Hardenbergstraße 33, 10623 Berlin - ground floor, around the corner to the right, near the snack vending machines
Who can get a CampusCard?
Every student at the UdK receives the CampusCard.
First-year-students and newly registered students will receive the CampusCard after their enrolment.
Generation and validation of the CampusCard
Generation of the CampusCard (QR-Code required)
Students are issued a one-time QR-code, which can be used to print a personalised student ID at one of the three terminals. This process takes about 1 minute (Campusmanagementportal my.udk: my studies - requested reports / reports).
The QR code displayed as a PDF can be scanned either via a smartphone or tablet at the machines. If you do not wish to use such a device, you can also print out this letter.
After using the QR-code it is possible to print a card with or without a passport photo. Photos are taken by the terminal. Cards without a passport photo are not valid without another official document which contains a photo.
After receiving the card, it has to be validated at one of the four validation terminals. These print the validity on the card. This has to be done once every semester.
Updating / validation
The Validation can be printed 8-10 working days after the semester fee has been paid. In the campusmanagementportal my.udk, you can check whether you have already been confirmed so that the update can be made. You do not need a new QR code or a new card. Your current card will be reprinted at the machine.

Are the terminals usable for students with disabilities?
All terminals are designed according to ISO 18040 and therefore usable by students with disabilities. The terminals are wheelchair-accessible and have a voice output in German and English.
Can I use any terminal in the network to generate or update a card?
No, for data protection reasons, only terminals from your own university can be used with the QR code and the card.
How do I store the CampusCard?
Damages to the card can be avoided through normal handling. To ensure that your card lasts your studies the following guidelines are recommended:
- Protect the card against smudges and scratches, e.g. in a protective case
- Do not bend the card

Functions of the CampusCard
- Student ID
- “Mensa-card” of the Studierendenwerk Berlin incl. electronic wallet for all payment functions which can be used with the stand alone mensa card.
- Library ID for the university library
The CampusCard is not an official document, therefore it cannot be used in examinations as a substitute for an identity card or passport.
Library card
For students of the UdK, the CampusCard is valid as a library card. For use as a library card, prior registration in the library is necessary. All other users receive a library card issued by the institutions.
You can find information on registration here.
Mensa card function
How does the mensa card app on the card work?
The CampusCard includes a full mensa card of the Studierendenwerk Berlin. This function can be used for any transaction which is supported by the mensa card. The anonymity of the personal information is protected by organisational and technological steps: the university has no access to the content of the app, while the Studierendenwerk Berlin has only the mensacard number and no personal data of the student.
Do I have to use the mensacard app on the CampusCard?
No, it is still possible to use a separate mensacard of the Studierendenwerk Berlin
How do I get my credit on the Mensa card paid out again?
If you want to have your credit balance paid out, you have to go to a cashier's office of the Berliner Studierendenwerk. You can find these in all refectories. There the credit on your card can be paid out.
Data privacy
Is my personal data stored electronically on the card?
The card contains no personal data on the chip. The chip contains only an anonymous but unique identifier of the card. Use of the mensacard function is also anonymous.
What data is stored in the system?
The CampusCard system is the student card system of UdK Berlin and therefore belongs to the sovereign tasks of the university according to the opening clause DSGVO Art. 6 para. 1.
In addition to the personal data required from the campus management system for the production of the card, technical data of the card and logs on the creation and updating of the card are stored in the system. Apart from the student number, the personal data is deleted after the card has been printed. The photos taken by the machines are not stored in the machines or in the system.
The technical data of the card and corresponding logs of the card are deleted 1 year after the card is blocked.
Are the cards safe?
The CampusCard are Mifare DESfire EV1 cards with AES encryption. Unauthorised persons cannot read them because of the AES encryption.
The cards do not contain any personal data.
How does the QR code work?
The QR-code is anonymous and contains a random, unique number sequence. No personal data is encoded in the QR-code. The QR-code is only usable once, and becomes invalid after the card has be issued. The code has to be printed or displayed on a smartphone/tablet so that the terminal can read it.
