Emma Wood
Emma is a weaver based in Berlin. Her work focuses on research and experimental material development, specialising in the intersection of heritage weaving techniques, technology and textile engineering.
She has a BA in Woven Textiles from the Winchester School of Art (2009) and an MA in Woven Textiles from the Royal College of Art in London (2011). She has worked as an independent weaver since moving to Berlin in 2011, and has been the historic Jacquard restorer and technician at the German Museum of Technology since 2016.
In 2023, Emma joined the Wearable Computing group at Berlin University of the Arts as part of the DiGiTal graduate programme. Her current research focuses on the intangible and embodied knowledge developed through velvet hand-weaving. Her research is funded by the Berliner Chancengleichheitsprogramm.
