Magdalena Kohler
Magdalena Kohler is a senior guest lecturer and PhD candidate focussing on sustainability, circularity, and recycling processes.
She has a background in fashion design and co-founded the technology-based knitwear label TRIKOTON. The label developed a method for translating audio messaged into knitting pattern, and an on-demand production for knitwear supported by an EXIST start-up grant.
From 2017 – 2023 she worked as an artistic assistant (Künstlerische Mitarbeiterin) in UdK’s fashion department. During this time, she headed the knitting lab and taught knitting technology on double bed knitting machines, as well as material and textile technology.
She is currently pursuing a PhD at the Technical University Chemnitz, researching the wool fibre cycle for clothing textiles from a holistic view. In her work, she analyses the sorting, cutting, and tearing process of post-consumer waste, with the goal to improve recovery procedures for mixed fibre waste from knitted textiles. She collaborates with industry partners and research institutes along the textile supply chain.
Her interdisciplinary approach to design and technology is crucial in both her artistic work and her teaching.
