In the study programme Fine Arts, students become acquainted with diverse means of artistic expression and learn to develop their own artistic positions. In this way they are prepared for life as independent artists. The basis for this training is work in one of the specialist artistic classes, in which they are individually supported.
The study programme Fine Arts encompasses the fields of painting and free graphic art, sculpture and installation as well as new media. Highly-talented individuals are selected for admission in a competitive admission process. After the foundation course and a preliminary examination, students are accepted by a specialist class for their third semester. Courses in art theory and history, aesthetics and philosophy as well as in the “Studium Generale”, with its orientation on cultural history, continue to augment their artistic practice.
At the end of the five-year study programme students take the graduation examination. Those who complete their studies with outstanding artistic achievement are nominated as “Meisterschüler” or “Meisterschülerin” of the UdK Berlin.
