Oblivia – DO WHAT YOU SAW AND HEARD
We invite you to a playful journey to the art of creation and embodying ideas and concepts in a safe and friendly environment. In the workshop we will practice methods that Oblivia uses for devising material for their performances. Oblivia’s work draws from a range of improvisational, somatic and performance techniques.
Through embodying ideas, improvising and sharing the participants' imagination is tickled to create an abundance of performance material. The workshop invites the participants to experience ways to translate ideas into body, action and text. We work collectively with imagination, subtlety, humour, presence and timing.
Do what you saw has been developed over more than twenty years of collective work. It, and variations thereof like the practice Share are the base for Oblivias collectively devised performances. Do what you hear includes the translation process from live music to performance and vice versa. Do what you hear has been developed together with composer Yiran Zhao, member of Oblivias artistic team since 2019.
The workshop starts with a check in round, followed by warm up and tune in of body and voice. The ensuing practices of Share and Do what you heard and saw are ways of moving between different formats like text, stage action and music. Westart by writing about the theme of today’s work, that is either a grand abstract philosophical theme like the anthropocene, or a more concrete theme like the weather. Then we go on to embody the theme moving between music, voice and action. The day ends with abig improvisation.
In this workshop we will go in-depth into the collective devising and collecting processes of material and approach the next step of putting things together collectively.
