Entrance Exam for Bachelor Piano (Bachelor of Music)

Repertoire:

There will be 2 parts of the entrance exam.

 

1st part: Video Preselection

All participants shall upload a video recording at the Online-Platform BEMUS until 15th of November 2024  (Application period: 15th of October to 15th of November 2024 for the SS 2025). Instructions see on: Applicationguide Bachelor Piano) containing the following works:

  • one classical sonata (e.g. Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, but not Schubert)
  • one virtuosic Etude (e.g. Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Bartók, Ligeti)

The recordings must not be older than 1 year and must not be edited nor manipulated.

The camera should not move and must show the applicant and the keyboard at all times.

All works must be recorded completely. All movements might be recorded seperately or in one take and also at different locations.

 


2nd Part: Live audition

After screening all videos, selected applicants will be invited for live auditions. Invitations will be sent by email. A list of the application numbers ("Bewerbungsnummer") of the selected candidates will be published on this website as well.

Dates: 1st / 2nd of February 2025

Theory test: 2nd / 3rd of February 2025

Repertoire:

  • one work by J. S. Bach
  • one sonata by J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart or L. v. Beethoven
  • one work from the Romantic Period or later

Only complete works will be accepted.

  • Short sight-reading

  • one sonata by J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart or L. v. Beethoven
  • one work from the Romantic Period
  • one work from the Impressionist or Neoclassical Period or other Styles around 1900
  • one work composed after 1950
  • one Etude by F. Chopin

Only complete works will be accepted (no individual movements).

  • Short sight-reading.

These repertoire requirements apply for all master piano programs.

Prerequisite for the Application for Master:
Bachelor majoring in Piano Performance at a recognized institution

 

 

Entrance Exam for Konzertexamen Piano

There will be just a live audition.

Date: 9th of February 2025 (for the SS 2025)


Repertoire:

  • Four important and complete works from four different periods.

Only complete works will be accepted (no individual movements).

 

Prerequisite for the Application to Konzertexamen:
Master majoring in Piano Performance at a recognized institution

For Foreign Applicants

UNI ASSIST:

After you have been invited to study at the UdK, you will be asked to submit your most recent academic transcripts to UNI ASSIST for verification (Vorprüfungsdokumentation). This is relevant only for applicants for the master program who have not yet studied in Germany.


Information on UNI ASSIST

 

Entry Visa:

You will receive the invitation to the entrance exam shortly after you have applied online. This invitation can be used to assist you with your entry visa application at a German Consulate or Embassy. Please be aware of the long processing times of these visa applications and make sure you apply well in advance. In case the Consulate or Embassy needs the invitation in a more specific form, let us know.


Language Proficiency (Bachelor and Master only):

If you cannot present a certificate for Level B2 in German Proficiency at the time of the audition, you must attain at least Level A2 in German Proficiency before you are allowed to start studying at the university. There are courses at the Goethe-Institut, Hartnack-Schule, and others in which you can enroll.

Only after you have submitted the certification Level A2, you will get the official notification that you are accepted and are allowed to start studying at the UdK in the following semester for a period of two semesters.

You are expected to have attained Level B2 in German Proficiency by the end of your second semester at the university. This is a mandatory requirement for continuing your studies beyond the second semester.

We will address your individual concerns and assist you in finding solutions regarding the language requirement.

There are no language requirements, if you apply for Konzertexamen.
