'I Spread' by Alejandra Rios Ruiz receives prize at FDUK 2024 Awards

Artist and SoundS student Alejandra Rios Ruiz has recently received international acclaim for her full dome format audiovisual work, 'I Spread.'

'I Spread,' which was created as part of last year's 'Portale' planetarium project by SoundS students, reflects on genetically altered organisms, "synthetic biomes," and how these speculative organisms would sound and look.

It has since been officially selected at the Sous Dôme Festival in Paris, the Full Dome Festival in Jena, and was nominated for a Janus Award for "Best Emerging Artist." The piece has also been featured at the IPS (International Planetarium Society) Conference, and received an invitation to be sow to the Moscow Full Dome Festival. The piece is also part of the selection for the Hell’s Half Mile Film Festival in Michigan and the Full Dome Festival UK 2024, where it won the “Best Sonic Experience” award.

Alejandra is a sound designer, sound artist and researcher who is currently in the final year of her Masters degree in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at UDK Berlin. She also works as a Producer and 4DSOUND Engineer in MONOM Studios, Berlin’s center for Spatial Sound. Alejandra’s work centers on the voice, with a specific focus on women's voices in literary, physical, and psychoanalytical contexts. Utilizing spatial sound as her primary medium, she seeks to occupy space with voices that challenge historical silences, embracing noise, ambiguity, and the layered complexities of women's vocal experiences. Her work invites audiences into an immersive reflection on voice, noise, power, and presence.
