Fundamentals and Processes of design

“Fundamentals and Processes of design” combines creative practice with a researching and reflective view. Visual communication is understood as a critical and mediating discipline that questions and further develops processes. The conscious examination of traditions and tools of design opens up new perspectives on the practice as an experimental and researching field. Social issues take center stage and are actively integrated into the design process.

Particular focus is placed on interdisciplinary cooperation with other arts and sciences as well as the workshops and laboratories of Visual Communication. A lively culture of discussion and continuous reflection on design processes are the starting point.

In the fundamentals, particular emphasis is placed on the breadth of the discipline of visual communication in order to encourage students to discover their own approaches and focuses. The implementation of the design projects is open to all media, so that the results can be published in printed, digital, spatial or film form.

“Fundamentals and Processes of design” offers a pilot project in the Master’s degree program in Visual Communication that focuses on the processes of design. This will initially run for two years.
