Fundamentals of New Media

“Fundamentals of New Media” deals with the basics of the conceptual, communication-specific and technical design issues of new media and offers a look at the history, research and current developments in the field.

The term new media covers a broad spectrum of different focal points, such as interface and interaction design, physical computing, media staging in space, 3D production processes and materiality as well as AI as a design tool.

How do we design generatively? How do we create immersive spaces? How can we create our own interfaces that interactively expand our environment? Questions of human perception and new social networking strategies have an influence on communication behavior and are changing our society. The subject area deals with these complex issues critically and creatively and provides access to them. Technology is questioned, discussed and expanded experimentally.

In short-term projects and an in-depth project, students learn the basics of new media in group work, supported by a team of lecturers, laboratories, workshops and invited guests from the field and from a wide range of specializations.
