Bachelor programme and Master programmes
The Voice/Opera department offers an eight-semester Bachelor programme as well as two four-semester, practice-oriented Master’s programmes. The aim of study is to prepare high-talented applicants for the multiple demands made on today´s professional singers, musicians and performers.
The eight-semester Bachelor course prepares students for further study at the Master’s level in Opera or in Lied/Oratorio/Concert (LOK) at the Berlin University of the Arts. It covers the basics in vocal training, repertoire, dramatic theory, elocution, Italian, voice physiology, movement, piano, music theory and the history of music. The four-semester Master‘s programmes Opera and Lied/Oratorio/Concert are both practiceoriented and allow students to pursue opera and concert training at an advanced level.
In collaboration with the Symphony Orchestra of the Berlin University of the Arts, opera productions, concerts and lied recitals are presented both at the UNI.T and at other prestigious venues. Contemporary music is an important component of the training and distinguishes the Berlin University of the Arts’ offerings from other vocal programmes. The Chair of Contemporary Lied, subjects such as new vocal music and notation and close cooperation with the Institute of New Music all underscore the University’s strong tradition of supporting new music. In collaboration with the Department of Early Music, singers are instructed in historical performance practice. Students enrolled in Voice/Opera programmes also work closely with the Conducting, Piano, Sound Engineering, Stage Design and Costume Design departments.
