Correspondances mystérieuses – Welcome, Prof. Lucas Blondeel! – crescendo
Interdisciplinary lecture-concert celebrating the inauguration of the new professor Lucas Blondeel
Lucas Blondeel, newly appointed professor of piano, and Toon Leën, visual artist, explore the imagery in the œuvre of Claude Debussy in their concert reading Correspondances mystérieuses. They offer exciting insights into Debussy's sources of inspiration as well as his musical innovations. The concert reading is oriented around the "mysterious correspondences between nature and imagination" so highly valued by Debussy, and takes the audience on a journey full of unexpected associations. An exhilarating concert experience for ears and eyes!
At the University of the Arts, Lucas Blondeel teaches fortepiano and historical performance practice as well as piano, so performing on a historical grand piano, especially Debussy's favorite Bechstein, is a deep desire of Blondeel. A generous loan from the Carl Bechstein Foundation makes this wish possible: the concert will be performed on a Bechstein grand piano from Debussy's birth year, 1862.
