Maison Ravel – crescendo
To mark the 100th anniversary of Pierre Boulez's birth, we are celebrating a chamber music evening in a class of its own and transporting ourselves to Paris, the bubbling metropolis of aesthetics, impressionism and the avant-garde that followed. On the one hand, the tradition in which Pierre Boulez stood is highlighted: Maurice Ravel, Lili Boulanger, Claude Debussy and, particularly influential, Olivier Messiaen, with whom he himself studied. Boulez's Sonatina for flute and piano (1946) takes a special place in his oeuvre. He entered the musical stage with it in 1946. It remains one of his most frequently performed works to this day. Influenced by twelve-tone music, it reflects his confrontation with his teachers and role models Messiaen and Schönberg. Kaija Saariaho's Mirrors for flute and cello is a reflection into the 21st century. If you listen carefully, you will discover many connections between all the compositions and at the same time experience their very own tonal languages.

The Berlin Senate has imposed enormous savings targets on public universities. You know that: An excellent musical education consists not only of the many hours of solitary practising and lessons by professors, but also, to a large extent, of performing in front of an audience. This inherent part of the training is also the opportunity for you to attend almost always free concerts at a high level. We don't want to have to cut back on this. By attending our events, you can also show those responsible in politics that music and art are meaningful for every society. And if you can: support us with small or large donations. The donations are used for teaching, tuning, transport, advertising material, for our music festival crescendo - wherever no funds can be spent at the moment. This directly benefits our students and also you as the audience, as this is the only way we can maintain events of this calibre and variety.
Thank you very much!
