The Sophtar: a networkable feedback string instrument with embedded machine learning
The Sophtar is a new electroacoustic string instrument with an embedded computer for digital signal processing, networking, and machine learning. Dr. Federico Visi designed the instrument as part of his research in networked music performance with hyperorgans and machine learning models. The Sophtar is designed to be networked with other instruments and performers, close by or far away, human or not. A performance will be accompanied by a presentation of the instrument, covering technical details as well as a discussion on what is like to perform in what Visi calls the 'Indeterminate Place.’
