crescendo 2025: InnenSaiten [EN]

Schlagsaiten with the ensemble ilinx – crescendo

Urban Ruths

Percussion is so much more than timpani and triangle and it is not without reason that it is a popular center of new music. New approaches and innovative ideas are constantly being found rhythmically, melodically and harmonically with the almost infinite range of instruments - exemplified by this evening. In Keiko Abe's The Wave, successive overlaps of rhythmic patterns open up completely new worlds of sound and perception. The percussionists provide new impulses with loud calls that bring the listeners back from the somnambulistic sounds of the marimba into the present. This mixture works surprisingly well and is visually fascinating, as the percussion demands maximum physicality from its performers like no other instrument. In addition to compositions by pioneers of contemporary music, three new works by composition students will be performed. Immerse yourself in this versatility with the ilinx ensemble, the percussion department, the composition department and the Studio for Electroacoustic Composition, Sound Art and Sound Research.

Luigi Nono: Con Luigi Dallapiccolla for percussion sextet and Live-Elektronics | Elena Postumi: sight of touch for percussion quartet | Keiko Abe: The Wave – Marimba Concertino for solo marimba and 4 percussionists | Jakob Böttcher: fellstudie for large drum and two players | Iannis Xenakis: Rebonds B for percussion solo | Laris Bäucker: Hirn-Wippe II for percussion trio

The Berlin Senate has imposed enormous savings targets on public universities. You know that: An excellent musical education consists not only of the many hours of solitary practising and lessons by professors, but also, to a large extent, of performing in front of an audience. This inherent part of the training is also the opportunity for you to attend almost always free concerts at a high level. We don't want to have to cut back on this. By attending our events, you can also show those responsible in politics that music and art are meaningful for every society. And if you can: support us with small or large donations. The donations are used for teaching, tuning, transport, advertising material, for our music festival crescendo - wherever no funds can be spent at the moment. This directly benefits our students and also you as the audience, as this is the only way we can maintain events of this calibre and variety.

You can donate here.

Thank you very much!
