On this evening, the Mozart Piano Quartet presents works by Aziza Sadikova and Mel Bonis. Bonis, born Mélanie Domange, was soon forgotten despite high praise from famous male colleagues; a symptom of the difficult times for female composers: hardly promoted, let alone recognized. Despite her inner and everyday conflict between her duties as a wife and mother and her work as a composer, she created almost 300 works of vocal and chamber music, including the two piano quartets that will be performed this evening. The program is complemented by the world premiere of Aziza Sadikova's Brentano's Dialogue, an imaginary dialogue between the German writer Clemens Brentano and his sister, the writer Bettina von Arnim. One “hears the fragments or blurred words of this conversation through the prism of time, as if in a hallucination. Sometimes it is clearly present, and sometimes it drifts back through the centuries” (A. Sadikova).
