Prof. Carola Höhn

short vita

Soon after finishing her studies in Weimar, Erfurt-born Soprano Carola Höhn joined the ensemble of the Staatsoper in Berlin, which has been her artistic home ever since. Here she's been performing an extensive repertoire including Beethoven (Fidelio), Gluck (Iphigenie), Mozart, Strauss (Capriccio, Rosenkavalier), Wagner (Meistersinger, Ring) and Schreker (Der Ferne Klang) - as well as several contemporary works. Conductors and directors are her continuous inspiration: Daniel Barenboim, Asher Fisch, Philippe Jordan, Kent Nagano, Zubin Mehta, Sebastian Weigle and Simone Young - or on stage Nicolas Brieger, Peter Greenaway, Günter Krämer, Nikolaus Lehnhoff and Harry Kupfer, to name but a few. She’s loved by the public for her lively and warm presence on stage and the immense diversity of characters on stage, always authentic, often surprising. Her most recent success and proof of virtuosity is her interpretation of the female title part in Jürgen Flimm’s fascinating production of Sciarrinos Macbeth. Being a dedicated concert and lied singer, Carola Höhn has recorded several Cds and is no stranger to Radio and Television. From her recent concert repertoire, let's name Gustav Mahler's 4th Symphony, Erwartung by Arnold Schönberg and Richard Strauss' Four last Songs.  International engagements have included Tokio, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Teatro Real in Madrid, La Fenice in Venice,  the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, the Lucerne Festival, the BBC Proms in London, The National Opera in Paris and La Scala in Milan.
