Dr. Michaela Conen

short vita

Since 2022, Dr. Michaela Conen has been the Head of Strategic Marketing at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). In close collaboration with the university’s president, she oversees strategic marketing management, the development and execution of a comprehensive, multi-channel marketing strategy, and ensures its successful implementation. She is also responsible for managing and advancing the university's corporate branding and design, while developing campaigns and fostering strategic partnerships.

From 2016 to 2022, Dr. Conen led the Marketing and University Events department at UdK Berlin. In 2022, the University Events division was restructured into an independent unit, now titled "Interdisciplinary Events."

Dr. Conen holds a PhD in strategic museum management from the Institute for Culture and Media Management at the University of Music and Theatre Hamburg, and brings extensive experience in the cultural and media sectors.

Since late June 2024, Dr. Conen has also been serving as the Process Manager for Antisemitism Prevention at the university.

This role builds on her extensive experience in antisemitism-critical educational work. Collaborating with a network of experts, she develops initiatives and projects designed to support institutions in establishing sustainable prevention structures and fostering awareness of the mechanisms and impacts of antisemitism. Her approach combines academic and artistic perspectives with practical measures to inspire meaningful change.

In addition, she is active in this field as a subject matter expert. Through lectures, workshops, and consultations, she shares her expertise to assist educational institutions and organizations in reflecting on and addressing antisemitic challenges, while strategically advancing their preventive measures.

Since 2023, she has served on the Advisory Board of Partner für Berlin Holding mbH, which provides guidance and support for the coordination of Berlin’s city-wide marketing activities.

On behalf of UdK Berlin Dr. Conen is also an active member of the advisory committee for the initiative "Berlin against Antisemitism," launched in early 2021 by the Berlin Partner Network. The initiative implements sustainable internal measures and public campaigns to raise awareness about antisemitism within organizations and the broader public, aiming to foster greater sensitivity towards discrimination and undermine the conditions that allow antisemitism to thrive.

Her career includes previous work at the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) in the Coordination Office for Capital City Tasks, where she developed cultural event formats, as well as their marketing and communication strategies. At the Jewish Museum Berlin, she served as Head of the Corporate Performance Management unit, advising the executive team on strategic matters. Previously, she worked in the Education Department of the Jewish Museum Berlin, where she contributed to the development and implementation of innovative educational formats aimed particularly at raising awareness of the history and contemporary realities of German-Jewish life.

In addition to her full-time role, Dr. Conen works as a freelance consultant, specializing in cultural advisory services.
