Every semester, a Welcome Week for new international students takes place in the week before lectures begin. Below is a short presentation of the individual events. The exact dates will be announced on our events website before the start of the semester.
Just before the start of the semester in April and October, we welcome all new international students at a Welcome Meeting. You will receive the invitation by e-mail.
At this meeting you will find out everything you need to know for your first semester (enrolment, important contact and advice services, German courses, visa and residence), presented by the International Student Services team.
The Intercultural Mentoring programme of the Studium Generale as well as other relevant UdK institutions will present themselves, e.g. AStA (Students Council). And you will of course have the opportunity to ask questions.
Afterwards you can meet other new students over drinks and snacks.
This workshop is designed to help international students master their first challenges at this university - and to make you curious about the things that Berlin and studying in Germany have to offer.
The workshop will be held in German and English and is run by the Intercultural Mentoring team.
Registration: Not necessary. The date will be announced on our events website before the start of the semester.
The rallye is a great opportunity to get to know UdK Berlin in a fun way and in multinational teams. With the help of an app, you will explore different buildings on the UdK campus whilst answering questions and completing tasks together. At the end, prizes will be awarded to all teams at a gathering in a campus café.
Exchange students are also very welcome.
Registration: You can find out how to register before the start of the semester on our events website. Places are limited.
Schnippeldisco - what is that?! Schnippeln = to cut something into small pieces, e.g. vegetables. So we will chop vegetables together, cook them and then of course eat the prepared food together. We are using rescued food, supported by The Real Junk Food Project Berlin, who will also educate us about food waste. A DJ will be selecting rhythms for chopping and dancing.
This cooking event is the highlight of the Welcome Week. You don't need any cooking experience to join. Everyone is welcome – international first-year students as well as exchange students.
Registration: You can find out how to register before the start of the semester on our events website. Places are limited.
We end the Welcome Week of the winter semester with a Finissage, which will take placeduring the first week of lectures. There will be snacks and drinks and the opportunity to meet new people. SpeedFriending works similar to SpeedDating: within a certain time limit, you can chat with the person sitting opposite you. Then you have to move up a seat. We have already prepared a few funny questions for you, so fun and new friends are guaranteed.
Registration: You can find out how to register before the start of the semester on our events website. Places are limited.
The VOLKSWAGEN library at Fasanenstraße is a joint university library of UdK Berlin and TU Berlin. At the beginning of each semester, it runs its own information days called "bin in der bib". For new UdK students we organise special guided tours during these info days on the UdK floor of the library. You will learn how to get a library card, how to find books and much more. There are guided tours in German and English.
Registration: No registration required. You can find out the dates before the start of the semester on our events website.
