Avoid Unconscious Discrimination!

How can we select our professors in a fairer way?

With the cooperative project “Equal Opportunities in Professorial Appointment Procedures – An Unconscious Bias Training” TU Berlin and UdK Berlin are advocating for fairer and more inclusive appointment procedures. The project was funded by the Berlin Programme for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching (BCP) and the Einstein Foundation Berlin.

The digital, interactive training aims to sensitise members of appointment committees to unconscious bias in appointment procedures. Participants slip into the role of a committee member and go through steps such as discussing criteria, presenting candidates and selecting reviewers. Unconscious bias can lead to discrimination against certain groups of people. The focus of the unconscious bias training is on gender bias.

The project was accompanied by an advisory board of experts from TU Berlin and UdK Berlin, who contributed their experience in the areas of appointment procedures, animation, gender and diversity.

The training will be published on 11 November 2024.
