Carl is a French-German research artist who lives and works in Berlin and Paris. In their interdisciplinary interwoven practice, they explore the dialectic between desire and destruction against the backdrop of an unequal power imbalance. Aggression, resilience, and resistance of women, female-read, and queer subjects within capitalism—along with their imposed contradictions—are explored through contemporary pop culture as well as biblical and ancient mythology as cultural data carriers. Carl’s large-scale, biomorphic and formless installations are blurring the boundaries of the media and materialities used.

Beyond her studio practice, Carl engages in collaborative projects with collectives and curates exhibitions, performances, and club nights to bridge the gap between inaccessible white cube art spaces and queer club culture. Carl also organizes free self-defence classes for women and LGBTQIA+ people, combatting the rise of right-wing violence and femicide in Germany. These initiatives underscore Carl’s belief in sharing resources and tools for protection and resistance as essential acts of healing and empowerment.
