Travel and accommodation costs
For the first two rounds, participants will be given a list of affordable hotels. For participants in the final concert, the competition will pay a partial compensation towards accommodation costs. Travel costs will not be reimbursed.
Preliminary decision
The results of the preliminary selection will be announced no earlier than 1 December 2018. Contestants selected for the first round will be sent a copy of the commissioned piece no later than 15 December 2018.
Rehearsals
Official piano accompanists are available at no charge to the competitors. Participants may bring along their personal accompanist at their own expense.
The finalists will have the opportunity to rehearse for two hours with the orchestra, without conductor, on 28 and 29 March 2019.
Conditions of participation
The contestants will be judged by a joint violin and viola jury. In the final round, the competition will decide on the playing order. With the exception of the work commissioned for the competition, the sonatas with piano and Lutoslawski/ Denisov in the finals, all works must be played by memory. This includes the application video. The final round
with orchestra will be without conductor, the finalist will lead the orchestra. All competition rounds are open to the public. The jury retains the right to adjust the programme during the competition process.
All prize-winners are required to attend the prize-giving ceremony to receive their prizes in person. They are also expected to participate, on
invitation, in subsequent concerts and if necessary to cooperate with radio and television programmes covering the competition, in both cases without remuneration. In case of doubt or contention the German text version of these conditions will prevail.
Media and rights
Participants accept the competition organizers’ right to allow competition performances to be recorded and broadcast in whole or in part. This applies to sound, film and video recordings as well as all other electronic or mechanical recording methods. Such recordings will not result in a right to claim remuneration.
