Álvaro Castelló

Vita

Born in Sevilla (Spain) in 2003, Álvaro started his musical studies at the age of 8. He studied at the Barenboim Said’s Foundation in Sevilla (2017-18)  with Jacek Policinski. In 2018, he started his studies at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Fundación BBVA Viola Chair with Diemut Poppen. He was granted scholarships by Jaime Castellanos and the “Fundación Albéniz”.  He is currently studying a Bachelor degree at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin with Professor Simone von Rahden.
He has participated in several chamber music festivals and masterclasses in Europe, like the Mendelssohn Festival (Hamburg), Turina Festival (Sevilla), AIMS Festival,  Pau Casals Festival in El Vendrell and IMS Prussia Cove in England.

Álvaro has also a big interest in orchestra playing, and he has performed with youth orchestras in Spain from a very early age, and international orchestras and ensembles like the European Union Youth Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the Boulez Ensemble…

He has received masterclasses from violists such us Antoine Tamestit, Tabea Zimmermann, Lars Ander Tomter or Lawrence Power. In the chamber music field, he has worked with artists like Wolfgang Redik, Márta Gulyás, Alexander Janiczek, Denis Goldfeld.

As a soloists, Álvaro has performed the “Rhapsody Concerto” by Martinu with the Sinfonietta 92 in the Philharmonie Berlin, the Bartók Viola Concerto with the Orquesta Bética de Sevilla and “Lachrymae” by Britten at the Teatro Real in Madrid.

Álvaro has been awarded with first prize at the Llanes Viola Competition 2023 and Vigo Competition 2020.
