Eike Coetzee

Vita

Namibian violist Eike Coetzee, born in 2002, began playing the violin at the age of seven. He made his debut as a soloist with the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra at the age of ten.

From 2018 to 2022, he attended the Schloss Belvedere Music High School in Weimar, where he switched to the viola in the class of Prof. Erich Krüger and Prof. Ditte Leser. Since the winter semester 2022, he has continued his studies at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar. Eike Coetzee received further musical inspiration from Roland Glassl, Thomas Riebl, Florian Richter, Friedemann Eichhorn and Beate Hartmann. He has been studying with Tabea Zimmermann at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts since the winter semester of 2024.

Chamber music is one of his greatest passions. He performed with Miklós Perényi, Gary Hoffmann and Gidon Kremer, among others, as part of the Chamber Music Connects the World 2024 festival at Kronberg Akademie. Other chamber music partners include Alexey Stadler, Luka Coetzee and Charlotte Thiele.

Eike Coetzee has won several prizes at national and international competitions. In March 2023 he was awarded the Grand Prix title of the international SZYMON GOLDBERG competition. Previous successes include first prizes at “Jugend musiziert” and second prize at the 2021 National Youth Music Competition in South Africa.
