Jiwon Kim
Vita
Born in Seoul, South Korea, violist Jiwon Grace Kim is the second-prize winner of the 2022 Washington International Competition. Jiwon debuted in the United States at the age of 16, performing with The Richmond Symphony Orchestra as a soloist. As an avid chamber musician, Jiwon has collaborated with A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra, Philip and David Ying, Philip Setzer, Nicholas Kitchen, and Steven Tenenbom. Jiwon has performed in festivals including the Chamber Music Fellowship at the Heifetz International Music Festival, the Fellowship at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Yellow Barn Young Artists Program, and the Music@Menlo Young Performers Program. In addition, Jiwon has performed in solo masterclasses given by Roberto Diaz, Kim Kashkashian, Carol Rodland, Richard O’Neill, Karen Dreyfus, Cynthia Phelps, and Teng Li.
Jiwon previously studied with Mai Motobuchi at Walnut Hill School for the Arts, and Jeffrey Irvine at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She currently studies with Hsin-Yun Huang and Misha Amory at the Curtis Institute of Music. Jiwon is grateful to play Siefried bow generously on loan from The Maestro Foundation.
