Justin Julian

Vita

Justin Julian is currently Principal Viola of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, where he was first appointed Associate Principal Viola aged 21. Justin has also performed as guest Principal Viola with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and worked with the Sydney Symphony and Opera Australia orchestras.

Alongside his orchestral career, Justin is a sought-after chamber musician and soloist. Recent solo engagements include Britten's Lachrymae and Holly Harrison's Hotwire with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in 2024. Chamber music highlights include collaborations with KLASSIK underground, Omega Ensemble, Pekka Kuusisto and Hartmut Rohde.

Born in Sydney, Justin studied with Roger Benedict at Sydney Conservatorium of Music and continued his development in masterclasses with Hartmut Rohde, Tatjana Masurenko, Jean Sulem and Anne-Sophie Mutter. While studying, he completed both the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship and the Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist programs. Justin's chamber music training included masterclasses with Eberhard Feltz and members of the Borodin, Takács, Fine Arts and Doric string quartets.
