Making her solo debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17, American-Lebanese violinist Meriel Bizri (22) is 2nd Prize winner of the 2024 International Franco Gulli Violin Competition (Rome), 1st Prize winner of the 2019 Boston Symphony Concerto Competition and 1st Prize winner of the 2019 Boston Philharmonic Youth Competition. She has also appeared as soloist with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Ariadimusica Orchestra, giving soloperformances in venues such as Boston Symphony Hall, Teatro Italia, and Harvard’s Sanders Theater.
Meriel has appeared as soloist and chamber musician in festivals such as Verbier Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Zermatt Festival, IMS Prussia Cove, Seiji Ozawa International Academy, Montecastelli Chamber Lab, Vivacissimo Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, Crescendo Festival (Berlin), and others. She has also attended masterclasses with Noah Bendix-Balgley, Mihaela Martin, Rainer Schmidt, Gerhard Schultz, Andras Keller, Jens Peter Maintz, Kim Kashkashian, Ivan Moneghetti, Ettore Causa, Nobuko Imai, Eberhard Feltz, and members of the Ebene Quartet, among others. Since 2020 she has been a student of Nora Chastain at the Universität der Künste Berlin. Additionally, she is regularly taught by members of the Artemis Quartet as part of her studies.
Meriel is a former member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra (2020-2022), holding leading positions in the ensemble. She is also a member of Zermatt Festival Orchestra (2023-). Additionally, she appears regularly with the Karajan Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker.
Since 2023 Meriel is a scholarship holder of the Vereins Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V. She currently plays a Giovanni Francesco Pressenda violin, Turin c. 1828 generously loaned to her.
