Words of greeting from the Ambassador
I consider it a great honour to be the patron of this year's Concert for the Nations, a concert played each year by the Symphony Orchestra of Berlin University of the Arts as one of its major projects under the direction of Professor Köhler. It is an extremely laudable enterprise, whereby the students of the UdK Berlin can also present their artistic talents to an international audience. This year I am extending a warm welcome to the ninth concert of this series. Today's programme contains works by Schumann as well as the famous 5th Symphony by Tchaikovsky, one of his most popular.
I would like to take the opportunity here to congratulate Berlin University of the Arts, Germany's biggest artistic university, as well as its students and all those involved in this project, for their considerable efforts and for their shining example of how music can promote exchange between cultures and between nations. I am sure that in future the UdK Berlin and its symphony orchestra could develop into a forum for works by foreign composers who have worked in Berlin: in the case of Greece, for example, it might be Nikos Skalkottas and Dimitri Mitropoulos, two composers who lived and worked in Berlin for a long time. I wish you all a wonderful evening of the very best entertainment!
Dimitris Rallis
Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic
