Prof. Mayumi Hirasaki is teaching historic violin and viola beginning summer term 2025.
Welcome, Prof. Hirasaki!
Mayumi Hirasaki studied violin in her hometown Tokyo and in Nuremberg, baroque violin and harpsichord in Munich and Lucerne, and church music in Bamberg/Nuremberg. Her teachers included Daniel Gaede, Mary Utiger, Christine Schornsheim and Giuliano Carmignola.
She taught at music colleges and universities of Nuremberg, Essen and Frankfurt, and is Professor at the Mozarteum Salzburg since 2017.
For the summer semester of 2025 she was appointed Professor of Historical Violin and Viola at the University of the Arts Berlin.
Mayumi Hirasaki has won prizes at numerous competitions in Japan and Europe including the International J.S. Bach Competition in Leipzig and the Early Music Competition in Bruges, Belgium. She is concertmaster with Concerto Köln and Gaechinger Cantorey (International Bach Academy Stuttgart), and a regular guest with various baroque orchestras and ensembles such as Freiburger Barockorchester, Zürcher Kammerorchester, Kammerorchester Basel, La Divina Armonia with concerts in Europe, USA and Japan.
Her chamber music partners include performers such as Christine Schornsheim, Lorenzo Ghielmi and Michael Freimuth.
Among her numerous CD recordings are recordings of violin concertos and sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach with Giuliano Carmignola & Concerto Köln, Lorenzo Ghielmi & La Divina Armonia and Christine Schornsheim. With Concerto Köln she recorded music by Charles Avison, Johann Sebastian Bach, Francesco Geminiani, Antonio Vivaldi and others. Her latest recording presents violin concertos and orchestral works by Johann Georg Pisendel.
In 2020 the solo CD "L'Arte della Scordatura" and in 2022 the ,,Rosary Sonatas" by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber were released.
Mayumi Hirasaki plays a violin by Domenico Montagnana on loan from a German foundation.
