“Towards the Transmediterranean” searches for non-imperial geopolitical and geopoetic imaginations that sketch out another possible future which extends beyond imperial spaces and borders of today’s Europe.
The vision of the Transmediterranean is created in the studio by projecting a programmatic text onto lengths of fabric. The text becomes a landscape - which then together with landscape shots from Greece next to it, create a cinematic cartography. The language thus somehow inscribes itself onto the landscape.
The tourist view on the Mediterranean as a site of longing is turned into an utopian view beyond the categories of “Self” and “Other”. The view on the Mediterranean is also the view on a hidden continent and a space of possibility that opens up from there.
