The Berlin University of the Arts is one of the world’s leading artistic university educational institutions. It sees itself as an institution of the 21st century, conscious of its tradition and history, dating back to the 17th century.
At the centre of the university are outstandingly artistic and design teaching, research and continuing education in over 70 programmes in the four colleges of Fine Arts, Architecture, Media and Design, Music and Performing Arts, as well as the Berlin Career College, the Inter-University Centre for Dance (in partnership with the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts) and the Jazz Institute Berlin (in partnership with the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin). The Berlin University of the Arts is one of the few art colleges in Germany to have university status with the right to award doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. It also trains teachers in art, music and theatre/performing arts
Its excellent teachers shape the understanding of art conveyed at the Berlin University of the Arts. It draws from a wide-ranging perspective of practice and theory formation, from which new artistic questions arise. Current art practice opens up its fields of knowledge and approaches to the world and reflects on them critically. The field between the arts and sciences is a reflexive space from which epistemic, methodological newness is drawn, and the familiar is questioned.
Prof. Dr. Norbert Palz, President of the Berlin University of the Arts
