Equal Pay Day with the collective Frauen und Fiktion
On the occasion of Equal Pay Day, the Office of the Women’s and Equal Opportunities Commissioner invited the feminist collective Frauen und Fiktion (Women and Fiction).
8 March is International Women's Day. In Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, this day is an official holiday. International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911 and brought more than one million women and men from Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the USA onto the streets. A key political demand at the time was equal and secret suffrage for women.
This day has been an important fixture in the women’s movement for equal rights, against the mechanisms of patriarchy.
In remembrance of the political achievements fought for by previous generations of women*, the Office of the Women’s and Equal Opportunities Commissioner provides information on actions and events taking place around 8 March 2025 (see below).

Scream your heart out: screaming workshop for MINTA+ und FLINTA+
This workshop is led by Andrzej Profus, musician, coach for “extreme vocals” and activist at the intersection of voice, empowerment and social justice. The aim of the workshop is to explore feelings, your own body and voice. It’s about being loud together and letting out the things that are bothering you.

Film screening with live score: “The Women of Ryazan”
The silent film “The Women of Ryazan” by Olga Preobrazhenskaya is a feminist masterpiece from 1927. The musician Veronika Otto has provided a new soundtrack for the film with cello, voice and overtone singing and premiered it in 2024 as part of the Schönberger Musiksommer. The film deals with patriarchal violence, the pursuit of power and the resulting effects – including the madness of war, both in a private and social context. Veronika Otto will perform her live soundtrack to the film.

Self-defence course for women and FLINTA*
In this self-defence course with Henriette Wunderlich from Taekwondo Füchse Berlin e.V., participants learn how to recognise dangerous situations and how to avoid certain situations in advance. The course consists of two parts: Self-assertion and self-defence.
