Conditions of Participation and Application Form
Application Deadline and Documents
You may submit your application until April 30th, 2021 by using the online application form found on the website. If you need help filling out the online form, please contact the competition office.
Please submit the following additional items via e-mail (bbw@udk-berlin.de):
1. picture of the ensemble (colored JPG print resolution), free from any copyright, for booklet or website
2. one PDF document incl. every ensemble member's CV
3. pictures of passports/ID cards of every ensemble member
Applications should be sent completely with the enclosed and signed application form and be received by the competition office on April 30th, 2021, at the latest. Incomplete applications cannot be accepted.
Conditions of Participation
Eligible are all ensembles with 3-7 members (no singers), with an age of 35 years or under on September 25th, 2021.
Application and participation is free; however the selected ensembles are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs. The competition is open to the public.

Preliminary Selection
All recordings will be played to a committee of jury members to select the participants. All competitors will be informed of the committee´s decision as soon as the preliminary selection has been made. This will be in May 2021.
Course of the Competition
The competition is divided in two parts, the intermediate round and a final round. For the intermediate round the order of presentation of the competitors is decided by drawing lots. At least one member of each ensemble is supposed to come to the registration. The order of the final round decides the jury.
Program of the Competition
Preliminary round
Applicants are required to send in a video recording (Youtube or vimeo link) which should include one piece from each of the following (20-30 min):
1. work(s) from the “Berliner Schule”
2. work(s) from the Italian high baroque era
3. applicants’ choice
The recording must be an unedited live recording, free of cuts and digital remastering, 20-30 minutes in duration.
Intermediate round (30 min) and final round (45 min)
The competitors will submit a program of their own choice
The programs must contain:
work(s) from the “Berliner Klassik” and/or from either Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel or Johann Christian Bachwork(s) from the Italian high baroque era work(s) by applicants’ choice
Adaptations in the style of the 18th century are permitted, not all members of the ensemble have to perform all pieces, works for solo instruments are not permitted. Pieces from the preliminary round may be part of the competition program. The jury reserves during the competition passage adapting de program.
Media and Rights
With the application the participating ensemble explained that performance rights and rights that arise at on drawings to image and/or sound recordings of any kind during the berlin bach competition, free of third party rights. Furthermore, the ensemble declares that the rights mentioned are free of charge, for an unlimited period and transferred to the competition management worldwide. In particular, the agreement for the recovery of expenses relative to competitor’s video and/or audio recordings of all species is free of charge, for an unlimited period and granted worldwide in becoming. The competitors are not entitled to compensation. Otherwise any private records under the berlin bach competition of pictures and/or sound recordings of any kind are not permitted. The inclusion of the finals is provided exclusively for private purposes. Any commercial re-use is not permitted and may result in claims for recourse.
Closing Statements
Candidates agree to be present for the entire period of the competition. Candidates who obtain admission to the final round are committed to take part.
All winners agree to be present at the award-giving event and to receive their prizes personally.
The jury’s decision will be final and is not contestable.
