Antje Vowinckel

Antje Vowinckel has learned radio from scratch. After her studies of literature, music and sociology (finished with a PhD on collage forms in radio art) she completed a 18-month-traineeship at SWR, German public radio, where she worked for three years as a director, author and dramaturge. Since 2000 she has lived in Berlin as freelanced sound artist.
Her work comprises longer radiophonic compositions, musical performances with vibrating speakers or soprano saxophone and installations for public space. She repeatedly addresses the relationship between music and language, for example in her piece Call me yesterday or in compositions with Dialect Karaoke and Automatic Speaking, methods, she has developed over the years. Other pieces show an artistic perspective on the sonic planet with ongoing changes in our direct surrounding. She has performed at festivals such as Donaueschinger Musiktage, Klangwerkstatt, Eklat-Festival. Her works have received numerous awards, e.g. the Karl-Sczuka-Förderpreis for radio art and most recently the Prix Phonurgia Nova 2024 in France for her piece opdoppling. recycling ritual in four parts.
