Als Elsa-Neumann PhD Fellow am Fachgebiet Digitales und Experimentelles Entwerfen beschäftigt sich Frank Bauer mit operativen, instrumentellen und materiellen Logiken computergestützter Fabrikation. Sein Interesse gilt den Ontologien digitaler Modellierungs-, Bildgebungs- und Fertigungsverfahren und ihrer experimentellen Erweiterung als Mitglied und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter.des Exzellenzclusters Matters of Activity Er lehrt im Architektur B.A./M.A. der UdK, dem interdisziplinären M.A. Design&Computation zwischen UdK und TU Berlin sowie dem Design for Manufacture MArch der Bartlett (UCL).

Er ist Absolvent der Architektur an der Universität der Künste (M.A. 2017) und studierte mit bilateralem Stipendium an der University of Illinois und dem IIT Chicago. Vorhergehende kunst- und kulturgeschichtliche sowie sozialwissenschaftlichen Magisterstudien an der ALU Freiburg, JGU Mainz und FU Berlin beschloss er mit einer raumästhetischen, sinnespsychologischen und einfühlungstheoretischen Neuverortung der Architektur des tschechischen Kubismus (M.A. 2012).

Nach Tätigkeiten für die Fondation Vasarely in Aix-en-Provence, KWY Lissabon und Christian Vogel Architekten BDA erfolgte die Gründung des Büro Vogel Bauer, welches Planungsleistungen von der Konzeptions- bis zur Ausführungsphase zeitgenössischer Kunstproduktion anbietet. In der Visualisierung und Planung sowie der digitalen Modellierung von Fertigungsdaten erhält er Einblicke in den Werkprozess von Künstlern wie Nevin Aladağ und Olafur Eliasson.

Frank Bauer wird durch ein Graduiertenstipendium zur Förderung des künstlerischen und wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses (NaFÖG) des Landes Berlin gefördert. Er war für den YTAA der Mies Foundation sowie den BDA/SARP Award nominiert, ist Preisträger der Margot und Paul Baumgarten Siftung, des Max Taut Preises sowie Alumnus des Genshagener Kreises.

Frank Bauer is Elsa-Neumann PhD Fellow at the Department of Digital and Experimental Design, where he inquires the ontologies and practices of computational manufacturing. As a research associate within the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity, he concentrates on extending the operative, instrumental and material basis of digital modeling, imaging and fabrication workflows, such as to embed and probe them in industry. He is teaching within the B.A./M.A. programs at UdK, the interdiscplinary M.A. Design&Computation between UdK and TU Berlin aswell as the Design for Manufacture MArch at the Bartlett (UCL).

He graduated in architecture from Berlin University of the Arts (M.A. 2017), with stays at the University of Illinois and IIT Chicago, funded by a bilateral scholarship. After graduate art and cultural historical as well as social scientific studies at ALU Freiburg, FU Berlin and JGU Mainz, he received his M.A. (2012) by situating czech architectural cubism within fin-de-siècle discourses on cognition, spatial aesthetics and empathy.

After positions at the Fondation Vasarely in Aix-en-Provence, KWY Lisbon and Christian Vogel Architekten BDA he co-founded Büro Vogel Bauer, a planning agency for contemporary fine arts production. Through his work in visualization, modeling and the generation of manufacture data, he gains insights into the practice of artists such as Nevin Aladağ and Olafur Eliasson.

Frank Bauer receives a dissertation scholarship from the state of Berlin. He was nominee to the YTAA by Mies Foundation and the BDA/SARP Award, is Margot and Paul Baumgarten Foundation aswell as Max Taut laureate and alumnus of the Genshagener Kreis.
