First session: 23.04.2025, 18:30

Join us for the second edition of the immersive Blender seminar for beginners at UdK Berlin, taking place this summer semester. This course offers a hands-on introduction to the basics of 3D modeling and visualization using Blender, with a focus on creative and speculative design.

Continuing our exploration of science fiction themes, this semester’s central assignment shifts from the paranormal to the post-apocalyptic. Under the title “Postapocalyptic Pods,” students will conceptualize and design self-sufficient living pods for a near-future Earth rendered barely habitable by ecological collapse. These capsules should fulfill essential human needs for habitation and survival, reflecting a critical view of techno-optimism through imaginative design.

The course will guide students through Blender’s interface and fundamental tools, followed by deeper dives into modeling, texturing, shading, and rendering workflows. Sessions will alternate biweekly and combine technical instruction with conceptual development.

Participants will also benefit from specialized workshops and inputs by InKüLe, including:

– Form and space finding strategies
– Cloth and inflatable simulations
– 3D fabrication: CNC milling and 3D printing

Biweekly sessions will foster an open, collaborative learning environment — a “Blender self-help group” where students can exchange knowledge and receive support. By the end of the course, participants will have gained a strong foundation in Blender and developed a compelling vision of survival in a radically altered world.
