Das Seminar „How to Make a Revolution — Feministische Videokunst aus dem n.b.k. Video-Forum“ nimmt die bedeutende Sammlung des Video-Forums im Neuen Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) als Ausgangspunkt für die Betrachtung und intensive Diskussion von historischen und aktuellen Schlüsselwerken der feministischen Videokunst. Das Seminar verfolgt eine überzeitliche Betrachtungsweise der Videokunstgeschichte, um Querverbindungen zwischen einzelnen künstlerischen Positionen und ihren emanzipatorische Strategien herauszuarbeiten. In 8 Sitzungen à 2 Stunden gehen wir der Frage nach, wie Video klassische Blickbeziehungen und Geschlechterverhältnisse aufbrechen kann und inwiefern Video ein Medium der Selbstermächtigung ist. Ziel des Seminars ist, dass die Studierenden einerseits zur medienreflexiven Produktion von Videokunst angeregt werden und andererseits auch einen vertieften Einblick in das Sammeln, Archivieren und Verkaufen von Videokunst bekommen. Am Ende des Seminars verfassen die Studierenden ein eigenes Manifest darüber, ob und warum Video für sie ein Medium der Befreiung ist. Das n.b.k. Video-Forum wurde 1971 auf Initiative von Künstler*innen und Kulturproduzent*innen gegründet und ist das mit 1.700 Werken internationaler Videokunst die älteste und größte Videokunstsammlung in Deutschland. Sammlungsschwerpunkte sind Fluxus, feministische Videopraxis, historische und gegenwärtige Videokunst aus Berlin sowie medienreflexive Ansätze.

How to Make a Revolution - Feministische Videokunst aus dem n.b.k. Video Forum

The seminar "How to Make a Revolution - Feminist Video Art from the n.b.k.. Video- Forum" takes the important collection of the Video-Forum at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) as a starting point for the consideration and intensive discussion of historical and current key works of feminist video art. The seminar follows a supratemporal approach to the history of video art in order to highlight interconnections between individual artistic positions and their emancipatory strategies. In 8 sessions of 2 hours each, we will explore the question of how video can disrupt classical relations of the gaze and of gender, and to what extent video is a medium of selfempowerment. The aim of the seminar is to encourage studetns to produce video art in a media-reflexive way on one hand and to give them a deeper insight into collecting, archiving and selling video art on the other hand. At the end of the seminar, students will produce their own manifesto on whether and why video is a medium of liberation for them. The n.b.k. Video-Forum was founded in 1971 on the initiative of artists and cultural producers. With 1,700 works of international video art, it is the oldest and largest video art collection in Germany. The collection focuses on Fluxus, feminist video practice, historical and contemporary video art from Berlin, and mediareflexive approaches.

The course will take place Wednesdays every two weeks 14 - 16 h
at the Video Forum of the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and will begin on October 19, 2022.
