The Symposium Korean Nomad will explore the Korean diaspora in modern history and contemporary art through the lens of artists, curators, scholars, and art directors. In a series of lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and film screenings, the symposium raises questions about shared narratives of personal memories, identities, the domestic custom of Korea, moving and losing, learning and unlearning, and artistic practices. Explore artworks and artists dealing with ‘Migration’ of Korea, how ‘Nationalism’ has been used in Korea, the ‘Significance of the Community’ as a Stranger, the ‘Loss of Language and Identity’ through language barriers.
In a chain of events, held at UdK Berlin, Korean Nomad discusses the current issues facing Koreans and asks how to accept escape from Korea and/or Nationality in our zeitgeist (through time). In order to solve the question, the Symposium is looking at Korean diaspora literature and art and approaches the process of forming Korean identity and individual ego from a critical perspective. The Symposium aims to look back on the values for sustainable living and discuss the current situation in Korea and how it affects our daily lives and choices in this diaspora. This Symposium will encourage group discussions and provide an opportunity to talk further about the key issues and concepts of the event.
