Machine Sensing. Virtual Em/bodi/e/ment/s
This exhibition deals with the question: Which distinctive forms of distributed sensing emerge from the collaboration of human and machine sensing? It posits that more and more, ubiquitous and all-pervasive (pervasive) sensor technologies are moving into the media-theoretical discourse. In the oscillation between machine sensing and human perception, a new kind of interplay and new forms of agentiality between algorithmic environments and humans are formed. At the center of this investigation are sensor technologies with a multi-medial and multi-modal orientation of virtual and physical lifeworlds through the AzureKinect sensor and VR technologies.
This installation is exhibited on January 20 from 2:30 PM at the Vorspiel Transmediale Festival 2024 in Berlin and offers a reflexive as well as a hands-on space to explore and engage with virtual embodiment and the contemporary sensory condition we live in. The exhibition is the outcome of the seminar ‘Machine Sensing. Virtual Em/bodi/e/ment/s’ and presents the collaboration between an interdisciplinary group of educators and students of the Berlin University of Arts.
