Moderator of Panel 1: Dalís Pacheco (Interflugs UdK Berlin)
Based in Berlin since 2015, Dalís Pacheco works as an interdisciplinary artist and cultural entrepreneurship.
During the fourth Future Day, UdK2030 is hosting two panel discussions. The invited participants from inside and outside the university have agreed on a specific topic to be discussed under the conditions of equality, openness and diversity. After the first 7-minute statements of each participant, the topic will be opened for debate on common ground.
Introduction by moderator - 10-15 minutes
The repetition of sustainability and climate change topics on various panels and exhibitions can lead to either constructive or evasive discussions. The conversation on Panel 1 is an attempt to talk further about these important topics, approaching them from intersectional, critical and practical perspectives.
The title of the panel refers to the sayings by the indigenous author Ailton Krenak, who remarks that the end of the world is not a new topic for some communities, especially the indigenous ones. It works as an invitation to recover and honour the wisdom of traditional communities and recognize the importance of a systemic change. How can the language of nature support us in shifting the labelled understandings of sustainability? How can UdK become an intersectional sustainable institution?
The panel will be opened with a video by Ailton Krenak and SELVAGEM, called "Wild Arrow 3: METAMORPHOSIS" (2021). Andreas Weber will bring his inputs through biology and biosemiotics. Black Earth Collective, represented by Mandu, will share its experience on intersectionality and climate justice. Verena Michels, founder of the Weather Underground Berlin brand, will talk about designing the future through plant-based materials. Markus Bader, representing Raumlabor and Floating University, will talk about the relations between urbanism, sustainability and education. The artist Işıl Eğrikavuk will share her experience with nature and feminism through art. The panel will be moderated by the UdK student, Dalís Pacheco.
